How do I stop hyperlinks being changed when I save a Word 2003 Doc

If I type a URL in the format \\Servername\path and it converts to a
Hyperlink, when I save the document, the hyperlink gets modified to the
format ../../path when I want to keep it as \\Servername\path. It works fine
with Office 2000.
