how do I stop Outlook from hanging up my modem after a send/receiv

When Outlook finishes a send/receive, it hangs up the modem. How do I stop
this from happening? I would like it to keep the connection open for
additional access to the internet.

Impossible to say. You have provided no information. At a minimum you must
provide your Outlook version, mail account type, connection type, and
automatic polling settings.
