how do I stop project from calculating actuals

I have found that if I assign resources to a task, schedule work, and enter
actuals, then go to the gantt chart view and update percent complete, the
actuals I have entered will be changed. this makes Project 2003 unuseable
for tracking progress against actuals, because actual work should never
change once its entered. How do I stop this behavior in Project 2003
Standard?

Hi Capo3playd,

If this is *truly* what you want to do, go to Tools > Options, and on the
Calculation tab, uncheck "Updating Task Status Updates Resource Status".
This means you will have to update both actual work and % complete.

When you enter a % complete it is a duration measurement. I suggest if you
are entering actual work, use the remaining work value to update % work
complete.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi,

You could also use Physical %complete which does not feed back to actuals
and seems to be what you have in mind.

Hi:
Yes, the best way is to use physical % complete if you dont want your
actuals to change. But this might require a lot of detailed changes in your
gantt chart to show progress lines as per physical % complete and your
reports might not have the ability to calculate values with physical %
complete. But if you want to track your progress, won't saving a baseline
serve the purpose? you would have, with this options, 10 baselines that you
can save as your project goes ahead and you wont have to deal with the
difficulties of changing to physical % complete.

I tried this, went in and set my Pct Complete to 100% and my actuals where
still changed.

Hi,

Use Physical percent complete field, that does not influence actuals.
