How do I stop styles/formatting from changing inconsistently on t.

[Bold, Underling and Italics errors]

When I bold, underline or italicise a selection of text, the whole document
takes on their characteristic. To reset the problem I must "control-z" undo
then the text appears what I intended.

The site is currently down. The gist of the article is that the style in
question (usually Normal) has been set to update automatically (check box in
the Modify Style dialog).
