How do I stop the cursor from jumping back into sentences?

When using Office Word (XP 2003) to create a document and/or email, the
cursor will jump back up into already completed sentences, causing letters to
be entered. This causes me to go back, backspace out the letters, and then
back to where I left off and continue. This is not the odd occurance: for
every five sentences, it happens at least once. This is very frustrating--it
has happened twice in just typing in this message!

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

If you are using a laptop this is probably a touchpad issue (clumsiness in
my case, but maybe it's just set too sensitive in yours). If not, do you
have any speech recognition software enabled?

I have disabled my mousepad and still have the issue.

It also happens when I am using Microsoft Explorer and other programs.
