How do I stop Word from changing my file name (to one already in .

When I save a document in Word 2003 using Save as, why does the filename I
have chosen get changed by Word to the name of another document in my file
folder? Word uses whichever filename the cursor happens to be resting on in
the folder instead of the file name I typed in.

Usually, when you use File, SaveAs, the dialog should open with the FileName
dialog active displaying either Doc1.docx or the first few characters from
the start of the document. You should be able to type immediately entering a
new name in the FileName dialog: by that I mean the cursor is already in the
FileName dialog with doc1.docx (or the first characters of the document)
already highlighted. Typing immediately will overwrite the displayed name
with your choice. No need to click the mouse or do anything other than type.

If this isn't the case, then some third party add-in is interfering with the
way it should work. One such utility that comes to mind is the X-mouse
option found in TweakUI. But it is definitely not a Word problem, but
something stealing the focus of the mouse.
