how do i stop word from crashing all the time?

It started with just an error message, explaining word had encountered an
error and has to close, when i would be working on a document.

Now it does it, and tries to recover, when i simply turn on my pc, and or
open my email. It is trying to recover the Normal Doc. it then goes into a
cycle of trying to recover, crashing, then trying to recover, crashing over
and over.

i've run the virus scans and all, and now another person in the office's pc
is starting to do the same.

If anyone has any idea of how to fix this i would be eternally grateful.
