How do I stop Word from "forgetting" words marked as German or Gr.

I am writing a document, primarily in US-English, but with extensive quotes
in German and Greek (ancient). I mark the German as German, and the Greek as
Greek with "do not check spelling." Periodically, Word XP then forgets the
marked words and pops up a window that says there are too many mistakes to be
displayed, so I have do scan the document again for errors. Even when this is
done, and the German words are marked as German, and the Greek is marked as
"ignore," a few days later the same thing happens and word objects to Greek
and German words previously marked. -- How can I stop this from happening?

Have you cleared the check box for "Detect language automatically" in Tools

Yes, because I also have a number of very British English citations and I
noted that word became confused by trying to distinguish them.

Thank you for the suggestion though. Is there a logic next place to consider?

Are you applying "Do not check spelling or grammar" to the words directly
(by selecting them and checking this in Set Language) or by using "Ignore"?
I find that Word has a regrettable tendency to forget which words you've
told it to ignore. I don't know that direct formatting would work any
better, though.

Agreed. Ignore only seems to last one session - and sometimes not even that
session!

Thanks to Suzanne Barnhill and Terry Farrell,

it seems I'm stuck with it as it is, but I can also try hard formatting the
German with Do not check grammer and spelling, if I know the German is right,
of course. Most of the Greek was hard-marked that way and I only had to rely
on the "ignore" in the rescan process when too many mistakes were anounced.
It's something for Microsoft to work on: Is it a memory-write problem, or are
the marked words not saved as marked in the document itself at all?

Thanks again,

George
