How do I switch on barcodes for an existing mailmerge list? (Crosspost)

In Word 2000, I have a large mailmerge list that does not have barcodes
enabled. Is there a way to switch on bar codes for envelope printing
without opening each one and switching on from the control panel?

Any suggestions or help much appreciated.
