How do I tab over in One-Note?

I'm moving some recipes from Word to One-Note. In the recipes, I've listed
the ingredients using the tab key. This allowed me to keep the ingredients
list readable. After pasting the recipe into one-note, the ingredient
columns are usually a mess. I don't mind this. However, when I try to use
the tab key to line everything back up I end up inserting a table. I don't
want a table, I just want to list the information in the same way I had it in
word.

The tab key works fine if you haven't type anything on the line yet. But if
you're trying to embed a tab, forget it. All you end up with is a table.
How do I use the tab key without embedding a table?

Thank you, that works. While it's not the solution I wanted, it works just
as well.
