How do I take a snapshot in MS ?

I'm basically a Mac user, used to taking quick, variable sized snapshots of
graphics on the screen. How can I do this on a pc, using Microsoft software?
I need to get small visuals of menu bars, etc. to prepare instruction manuals
for my students.

You can use PrintScreen to copy the entire screen to the Clipboard (whence
you can paste it into any application) and Alt+PrintScreen to capture the
active window (which can be a dialog). It's generally preferable to paste
these into a graphics app and save them as GIFs rather than to paste
directly into Word (you can also use the graphics app to crop and embellish
the image). For screen captures more versatile than those you can get with
PrintScreen, you might want to get the very affordable SnagIt program from
TechSmith (www.techsmith.com).
