How do i track changes in shared notebook

M

Mary

I've just started using Shared Notebooks... i love it! :)

I have figured out how to see when changes occur
View->Pages changed Recently (pick time period)

and i've seen the highlight and the name/date when you click on it

but what i'm looking for is a way of tracking the changes...
i had someone update the doc and add a sentence
i then had another user update *that* sentence

at that point it only shows the NEWEST user as the one who updated it when
in fact the previous user is the one that added the sentence.

then i had someone delete that sentence. At that point it is gone and you
don't know it was ever there.

Is this kind of information available?
If so how do i get to it (kind of like wikipedia where you can get a history
of changes)
Thanks for any information!

Yes, a great feature.
But not without risks.

No there is no history or tracking feature.
Different from Word or Acrobat changes are stored in the text and there
is no information on who changed what.
The only info available in ON is who last updated the information when.

The above said is the answer for your question too:
There is no determine who has made which changes. And therefore no way
to search.

You'd have to train the users to insert a "stamp", f.e. using
AutoHotkey or the like.

But if I right click a "paragraph" I can see the information on wh
last modified it and when

So all I am seeking is a search that is able to factor this in

The full wish - since I am trying to (power) share notebooks - is ...
Able to search (find) b
Notebook/
Date and time range modified (not just date from but date to (les
important) also and with time ideally
Last Modified by user/s and option of last modified by any user/
except - in its simplest form I could just exclude myself and then fin
modifications by anyone else

This is information that onenote is already storing - I can see it b
right clicking any paragraph - as opposed to version history which
realise then requires a very different design core

For example
I could then search on a notebook for all changes made since xyz b
anyone other than myself

Right. But that's "meta-data".
So all I am seeking is a search that is able to factor this in.

The search in ON only works with *text*.

Working with meta-data would require a totally different approach and
could possible be done with an add-on. The OneNote API is rather
powerful and the information is laid open.
But it would need programming.

Quite some features ;-)

As said: the search functionality built-in is restricted to searching
*text* and it's based in WDS (Windows Desktop search). Your ideas would
need a totally different search-engine and a sophisticated UI for the
search-dialog.
And you won't find the wanted features in other Office apps (Word f.e.).

Thanks for explaining it to me.

I had not seen it as a big ask because i did not think it was doing
much that was special - just a bit of filtering.

I shall pop over to the connect site - it will give me a chance to
submit all my other ideas on my ON wish list section that I have been
running.
