How do I transfer contact categories names when downloading pst fi

When I download my contacts into a .pst file and then upload them on another
computer, the master catagory list on the upload computer does not have any
of the new catagories I created.

That's completely normal. The master category list has no connection whatsoever with the categories in individual items. It's there simply for convenience, stored in the Windows registry on versions before Outlook 2007. See http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/olcat.htm

Hello, Screaming Eagle. Why not consider Outlook 2007. When you import the
..PST file into Outlook 2007, you have the option of having Outlook add all
the pre-existing categories in the old .PST file to the current list of
categories in Outlook on the new computer.

Good Luck

Better yet, don't import. Just open the existing .pst file in Outlook 2007 and make it the default store.

Thank you, Sue, that is actually what I meant to say! I mis-used the term
"import" in this case. Furthermore, users do need to know that you need the
Outlook 2007 B2TR technical release before the category import option will
appear on the 'Properties' dialog for that .PST folder.

Thanks
