how do I transfer the contents of Outlook to a disc?

I am in the process of downloading all the information from my desktop to my
notepad and want to know how I can save my diary and contacts stored in
Microsoft Outlook to disk to then upload them to my notepad .... step by step
instructions would be appreciated
