How do I troubleshoot for Word 2000 not printing #10 envelopes?

In Tools, Envelopes and Labels, I am unable to print delivery/return
addresses, using Size 10 envelopes. The printer just pulls the envelope
through, makes printing noises, and spits it out - blank.

However, I am able to print delivery/return addresses (on letter-size paper)
if I select US letter (8 1/2 x 11 in) in the Envelope Size: window.

My printer is HP Officejet 6210 All-In-One. HP Tech Support advises the
problem is with the software.

What happens if you put a whole sheet of paper into the printer and "lie" to
the printer, saying it's a #10 envelope? Is anything printed? If so, does
the position of what's being printed match how you're feeing the envelope?

Often, the problem is that the printer expects the envelope to be fed in a
different way, or hasn't been told how the envelope is being fed.

If I put in a whole sheet of paper and lie, saying it's a #10 envelope, it
prints on the left side of the paper. However, the feed location for a #10
envelope is on the right side. Apparently, the printer will only print on the
left side -- but the envelope feed is on the right side.

Then there's probably an instruction (or a button on your printer) somewhere
to tell the printer to print to the envelope feed location.

If you can't find it... tell us what printer this is, and perhaps we can
help.

(Per my original post, the printer is HP Officejet 6210 All-In-One)

Although there was not an instruction, per se, to tell the printer to print
to the envelope feed location, I followed the thought, and for the umpteenth
time, I checked all the "printing preferences", and discovered a fix, which
is: in "Printing Preferences", on the "Effects" tab, to un-check the box
labeled, "Print document on: ", especially if the pull-down menu selection is
"Letter, 8.5x11 in."

I had incorrectly thought that if "Size 10" were selected in the "Envelope
size:" window, that it over-rode normal printing preferences in
Start/Printers & Faxes.

Thanks for essentially suggesting the problem might be a setting in
"Printing Preferences".

I assume you also realize that in the Envelope Options dialog of Tools |
Envelopes and Labels, there is a Printing Options tab that allows you to
select the appropriate feed method.

Yes, 6 different feed positions are illustrated, with one of them clearly
described as the "default envelope handling method". Actually I tried a few
of the other positions offered, and couldn't get the envelope to feed.

The problem was my failure to realize that "Resizing options" on the
"Effects" tab of "Printing Preferences" overrides Tools / Envelopes & Labels
.. If the "Resizing Options" box is checked, addresses will not print on the
#10 envelope.
