How do I turn off auto delete block in Word 2003 ?

Whenever I try to delete a sentence or several words when using Word 2003 the
highlighted text remains highlighted but does not get deleted. Instead, I
get a message on the lower left hand corner of the screen in the area of the
gray bar just about the taskbar and above the start button that says "Delete
Block? No (Yes)"------- the only way I can actually delete the text is to
hit the "N" key on my keyboard and then hit the "Enter" key. This will
delete the text but moves the cursor one line down. Apparently there is some
sort of feature turned on that won't let the program delete text
automatically when the delete key is pressed but asks for permission each
time. The problem has been driving me crazy. I have searched through all
the menus, the help file, and the knowledge base but I can't figure out how
to turn this feature off. Does anyone know how? I'd really appreciate the
the help if you do.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | General | uncheck the two
boxes for WordPerfect help and navigation | OK.
