How do I turn off automatic date function in XL?

I am in the process of entering values into a Microsoft XL Spreadsheet and
one of the coumns associated the value 2.13 with February 13th. This is very
frustrating since I cannot accurately sum the rows or columns with a date in
it. How do I turn off the function that automatically puts a date into the
column? The help section notes how to turn it on, but not turn it off.

Should be a simple matter of changing the cells' format from Date to Number

Select the cell(s) giving you trouble, press Ctrl-1 or use the menu to
select Format|Cells, then select the Number tab and change the format to
Number or General

Check your date sepearator in Windows Regional Options.

Change to something other than the decimal point.

I had it entering numbers the whole time, so why the hell did it change to
dates in the first place? Vista sucks ass, when this computer dies I'm
switching to Mac.

Enjoy your new computer, running Excel written by Microsoft. When you're
