new outlook 2007 in a new laptop. I have no exchange server, all my email
accounts are pop3, outlook runs slow, doesn't recieve mail and any new mail
doesn;t show up in outlook In folder unless i go to another folder and then
back to the In folder. This stinks.

Sounds like you are using a security suite that does a bad job at
integrating with Outlook. Disable this integration and try again.

ok, that works for now, but now i have no email virus security.I am using a
brand new version of McAfee security, home edition, and running Vista
Business, with MS Office 2007 on a brand new Dell, i transfered files using
the onboard transfer files and settings and fdownlaoded the brand new
version of Mcafee. On my old system - laptop xp pro, office business, mcafee
from last year, all is fine and fast.

Also, note, that there is a small outlook icon in the notifications icon
area on the bottom right -where the speakers icon , battery power icon, etc.
is. I haven;t seen that before.

And that is where it does its "syncronizing folder" message. What folders,
what synchronizing, why? !

Outlook default security settings and an up-to-date on-access scanner is
sufficient. Integration with Outlook is redundant and only causes more
issues as you noticed.

The Outlook icon in the Notification Area is there since Outlook 2003 (and
was possible with a regkey for Outlook 2002/XP). "Synchronizing Folders"
indicates a send/receive in progress; you do want to get your email, right?
;-) If this is on continiously it means your automatic send/receive interval
is set too short. If you have 1 or 2 accounts configured don't set it
shorter than 5 minutes but longer than 10 would be better.

The on-access scanner means that your virus scanner is running in te
background and scans the files when they are being accessed. This is the
default for and the purpose of basically any virus scanner. You of course
have to keep it up-to-date so it will recognize new virusses.

Default Outlook security settings means that you are not tampering with the
Level1Remove key, Internet security zone settings and downloading pictures
and for emails you don't trust (Tools-> Trust Center). Even when you do this
you'll see that Outlook is very secure and hard to penitrate by any exploits
thanks to multiple layers of security. The on-access scanner will function
as an extra layer in case something does come through but as stated before;
for something to go through it will require a manual user action.

This is all aside from the fact that a virus scanner integrating with
Outlook makes itself redundant since that same virus scanner already runs
"on the background."
