How do I turn one distribution list into two?

I have created a distribution list that is too big to send. I want to take
half of it, and make a new distribution list, but can't figure out how to do
it. I would think I could just copy and paste, but no luck. Any help is
much appreciated!

While viewing your Contacts, right-click the DL and drag it slightly. Release
the mouse button and choose Copy. You now have two identical, identically
named DLs. Open the first one and remove the first half of its members. Save
and close. Open the second DL, give it a new name, remove the second half of
the members. Save and close.
