how do i unlock a document?

every time i go to microsoft office, and i try to type something, it always says,"this modification is not allowed because this document is locked" and i don't remember ever locking it, because i don't even know how, what do i do? Help!!!!!!!!

not sure how to unlock a document the bottom of the screen reads no changes are able to be made document is locked? i am not sure how to unlock it or how i even locked it in the first place, help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
