How do I unlock a new document?

Whenever I open up any Microsoft office program (powerpoint, word and excel),
I can't do anything in it because it's telling me that the document is
locked. I check the properties and it's not marked "read only". I don't
know why or how this happened.

Check that you are not using an expired trial copy of Office. If a
purchased version, check that you have activated the product.
