how do I unprotect a document from older version?

I had pre-exiting templates from Word 2000 that were protected and had drop
down and fill-in field forms. When I went to edit them in Word 2007, I
unprotected them made the changes and protected them again. Now the drop down
feature doesn't work and neither does the fill-in portion. They are marked
properly in the options, but they don't work.

Make sure the document is not in Design mode. Click to turn off that option
in the Controls group of the Developer tab.

Note that macro security settings may force Design mode; this usually
happens if the document contains not only form fields but also ActiveX
controls. The fix is, not surprisingly, to remove any ActiveX controls from
the document.

And if you don't see the Developer tab, then you need to go to Office Button
| Word Options | Popular and check the box for "Show Developer tab in the
Ribbon."
