How Do I Update from Word 97?

The pc I inherited at work about a year ago was installed with Windows XP and
Office 2002. The word processing program up and running was Word Perfect.
Since I couldn't find MS Word anywhere in the system nor could I find an
index on the Office 2002 disc so I could download Word 2002, AND because I
had struggled with Word Perfect as long as I could stand it, I brought my
Office 97 disc from home and installed Word 97 from that, then wasted no time
in trashing Word Perfect. The other day a window popped up saying something
about Word 97 no longer being supported and updating to Word 2007 was the
smart thing to do, and a link for such was provided. The question I have is
since the links I followed about updating were about updating Word by
purchasing the newest ver of Office, shouldn't Word 2002 be on the Office
2002 disc that came with my system? If that answer is Yes, how would I go
about finding the index on the Office 2002 disc and downloading only Word
2002? Or is that possible? I couldn't find Word 2002 manually and the only
'Word' found by 'Find' was the Word 97 I installed. All ideas, comments, and
suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, K.

I would be very surprised if Word 2002 hadn't been installed to begin with.
You may have messed this up by installing Word 97, but you should be able to
remedy it by reinstalling. In Windows Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs,
select Office XP (there is no Office 2002; only the component apps are
labeled 2002) and choose Change. Don't change anything except to include
Word 2002. Insert the CD if prompted.

Wow, Thanks. It worked just like you described. I admit I was stumped for a
bit about the red X. At first I thought it was telling me Word couldn't be
added but when I clicked around it changed to what I needed. Couldn't have
