Hi Hopeful,
Office 2000 SR1 and SR1a have the same content, only a slight change in the installer file.
Check in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel to see what 2000 series products are listed as installed and remove any
you do not want/need (backup your files first). If the 2000 series products were installed in different timeframes it's possible
that you have one 2000 product that has the update and one (or more) that does not.
The Service Releases (SRs) have files that are common to a number of apps, but also unique content for some of the apps.
Both versions of Windows you mentioned should be able to install the updates, although you may want to see if you hav a current
version of the MS Installer (MSIexec.exe) installed on each machine.

I am trying to update my office 2000 premium, but Microsoft Update only
offers advise on SR-1a which assumes SR1 is already installed. Searching for
SR1 it says be sure Microsoft Project 2000 is installed on the machine. Is
this the beginning or is there an earlier starting point and will it work
with Windows XP as well as Windows Me? >>

I hope this helped you,
