How do I update or repair Office XP for students and teachers?

I tried to repair Office XPStandard for teachers and students because Outlook
wasn't working. Also, i was unable to insert clip files into a Word document.
The Office Updates site says it is unable to get information for my computer
for updates. I am unable to repair the program from the disc, the only thing
that is accessible are installations for web components, so i can't
re-install Office. I am unable to un-install the program either. Everything
comes back to some missing patches? I downloaded Office XP SP3 and that
doesn't execute either. Seems that it has to be manually installed and the
instructions are for techies who obviously already know what they are doing.
How about some help for this frustrated novice??

I read another post on similar problems and found a response pointing to this
article. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
after downloading and running the Windows Installer Cleanup utility, i was
able to take care of my problem. Seems like it may be the solution for many
of the posted problems. Thanks
