How do I upgrade the Unicode in Windows XP?

How do I upgrade the Unicode in Windows XP? I want to use a unicode that was
included AFTER the Unicode 2.whatever was included in Windows XP. How can I
make that work in Word and Excel?

The code I want to use begins with 1040_ . I know that I am supposed to
type the code and then ALT-X, but all I get is a little box because that code
is too new. How do I get Word/Excel to recognize this new code?

Please help.

The code I want to use begins with 1040_ .

Are you talking about the Deseret script? Have you installed the font
for it?
type the code and then ALT-X,

You might need to use Character Map instead.

This newsgroup is for Mac, not Windows.

You need to upgrade the FONT you are using. Windows XP supports "Unicode",
it's the fonts that determine which characters you can use.

(If you want to use the new capabilities of the Unicode specification, then
you may have problems. But if you only want the new characters, you need to
purchase fonts that support them.)

"Arial Unicode MS" supports Unicode 2.1, from memory.

If you purchase an updated font, you will get a larger range of characters.
You can't buy them from Microsoft: you will need to go to a Type Foundry
(see Google...).

Cheers
