How do I upgrade works 6.0 to office 2000?

I have XP Home as my OS. I have Microsoft Works 6.0 installed and am trying
to install Office 2000. I get the messages:

Setup failed to locate a valid qualifying product on your machine. Please
select the drive where a qualifying product can be found.

-and-

Error 1608. Could not find any previously installed compliant products on
the machine for installing this product.

I found a notation on the support pages that said Office 2000 MAY not
upgrade Works 6.0. However, I have done it before. Anybody else get this?
If so, how ddo I get past this installation error?

If you have the Works Suite with Word then you may be able to use the Office
2000 upgrade CD but I wouldn't guarantee you can use the CD.

I have MS Works 6.0. It does not say "Suite" on the box.
It includes a "word processor" not "Word".

Works has its own Word Processing program. The suite includes Word as a
separate program
