how do I verify msn messenger e-mail address, step by step please

I have windows xp, i'v downloaded msn messenger, I haven't been able to
verify msn messenger e-mail for outlook express. I't tells me to go to
..netpassport e-mail in box, open passport message but i can't or don't know
how to get there to proceed with verification in order to use mns messages.
I need step by step instructions on how to do this. Please help
