Scenario:
We have got several resources working on a project. Each resource has a
separate calendar with personal holidays etc.

Now, I would like to view how much work has been scheduled for each resource
on a daily basis in a given period.

What view in MS Project 2007 would serve this purpose?

Shahriar,

You can use "View, Resource Usage" and set the timescale and the right
hand "time phased view" accordingly (the same way you would in the
gantt view).

I am looking at that Resource Usage view and I see 0 work on some days when
it is a working day both in the project calendar and the resource calendar.
Can some one please explain why this is happening?

The same occurs for the Task Usage view.

Shahriar,

only when resources are assigned to a task you will see sheduled work in the
Resource Usage view (and in the Task usage view).
Also: the work could be rescheduled by manually setting the expected hours
per period.
Could it be that the Resource Usage view does not show "Work"? (right hand
click in the usage section).
So, if no work is shown on a day, the resource is not assigned to any work
on that day.

Answer to Ben's questions:
- "only when resources are assigned to a task you will see sheduled work in
the
Resource Usage view (and in the Task usage view)."
- Every task in the plan file has resource assigned.

- "Could it be that the Resource Usage view does not show "Work"? (right hand
click in the usage section)."
- 'Work' is selected.

So to reiterate the original problem, why is this showing 0 work on some
workdays when it is working day in both the project and resource calendar?

In this case I should examine the file itself, sorry, I have no further
"obvious" answers/ideas..... :-(

Are there Tasks with Resources assigned spanning the days with no work? Do
those Tasks have one or more Resources assigned? It's possible after editing
a task with two assignments that one assignment finishes early leaving a
gap.

Hello,

There are several reasons why you may see zero in either the
Resource or Task Usage view:

- someone manually entered zero hours in an attempt to resolve a
resource overallocation.
- there were zero actual hours reported and recorded on that day
- the Assignment Start was modified to delay the start of the
resource's work

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Another way zeros appear is when a resouce is assigned to a split task.
Either splittng the task after the resource is assigned or assigning a
resource to an already split task puts zeros into the period covered by the
split when viewed in the usage views.
