First of all, your Project Server administrator must create one or more
alternate Versions to which everyone can save a project. He/she can do this
by doing the following:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - Manage enterprise features
3. Click the Add Version button
4. Give the new alternate Version a name and then click the Save Changes
button

After the new alternate Version is created in the system, project managers
can save their projects in Microsoft Project Professional as both the
default production Version, which is the .Published version, and as the new
alternate Version. NOTE: Your PM's must save the project first as the
..Published version and then can save it as the alterate version by
completing these steps:

1. Click File - Save As
2. Click the Version pick list and select the alternate Version
3. Click the Save button

To make the new Version of each project visible in the PWA Project Center
page, your PM's must click Collaborate - Publish - Project Plan. If they
fail to do this final step, their alternate Version will simply not appear.
Hope this helps.
