How do I workaround the bug of insert page number in Word 2007?

In the TR-release of Office 2007 there is a bug: it is impossible to insert a
page number in the normal way from the tab Insert, and using Page Number from
the group Header & Footer.

In the previous release the item Page Number provided a huge amount of
options to design and position the page number.

Is it possible to release a patch, in order to reenable this option again,
or to give a workaround for this defect?

If you are legitimately enrolled in the beta test, you should have been
