How do I write Sample across a spreadsheet?

Newbie

I have made up a sample spreadsheet in Excel 2000 and want to have sample
across it but lighter so you can see the writing beneath (or on top of) it.
Any idea how I can do this?

Hi,

What you're looking for is a Watermark. You can't do it in 2000 unless you
want to overlay WordArt or something similar. As of Excel 2002 you will be
able to do it.

In 2002 or later you can add a graphic to the header to create a watermark
for all your pages.

In 2000 you can use WordArt but you will need to put a copy somewhere on
each of the pages you are printing out. After you insert word art with your
text. Change it to 2D if necessary, change the color, rotate if necessary,
add transparency.

The Drawing toolbar provides all of these features
1. 2D - Open the 3-D styles button and choose No 3-D
2. Color - right click the word art and choose Format WordArt and choose a
color
3. Rotation - choose Draw, Rotate or Flip, Free Rotate
4. Transparency - right click the word art and choose Format WordArt and
modify the Transparency option

If you have many to do, I have written code to insert watermarks for many
pages, ( 1 to ?) either landscape or portrait and horizontal vertical page
alignment.

If you would like I can send you the coded workbooks, or I could include the
four macros in a reply to your message.

Or you could go to Ron de Bruin's site here for the same code which he was
kind enough to add it to.

If you have Excel 2003, di the following steps.

1) Open Under the File Menu select Page Setup
2) On the right side of the dialog bos you will see three buttons, Print,
Print Preview, and Options. Click on Options.
3) Click on the "Effects" Tab
4) On the right side there is a section that says "Watermarks" there is a
drop down menu with four options, None, Confidential, SAMPLE, Draft

There is also a "Edit" Button that will allow you to change the Font,
Message and color of the water mark.

Watermarks are not an Excel Option.

It must be a feature of your particular printer driver.
