I am using office 2003.
I want to know how to write the Sanskrit words in english alphabets
(translitration) for which what fonts can be used. And also want to know the
availability of those fonts. Whether they (Fonts) are available free or not.

If you use "Arial" font and bring up the "Character Map" (you may need to
type in Arial in the top left box), and scroll down you'll find most of the
characters that have a short bar (-) above the letter you require. Select the
character, save it and then paste it in your text (it will appear in 13
point). If you scroll down about 3/4 of the way you'll find the characters
for dots (.) below letters, and clicking on any one will give you the code.
Thus, to put a dot (.) BELOW n, m, s, t, type in the letter and the code F026
(or other appropriate code, with no space after the letter) and hit the Alt x
keys. Thus nF026 + Altx gives n with a dot below. For d with a dot below type
in d(space)F026 and hit the Alt x keys (d F026). Putting dot ABOVE n and m is
much more complicated. I hope this helps; I had to learn by experimenting.

Are you sure that there isn't an IME for Sanskrit in Windows XP?
I believe that there is. Check Control Panel, Regional and Language
Options, Languages, Text services and input languages, click Details,
click Add, scroll Input language... yes - there it is: Sanskrit.

Regarding fonts: any Unicode-capable font can be used for Sanskrit.

Hi Pat:
I followed your instructions and I don't find Sanskrit when I scroll down;
after Sami Southern (Sweden) I find Serbian (Cryllic). I have Windows XP, and
Word 2003.

Do you have 'Install files for East Asian languages' checked?
