In Word 2003, it was easy to put a line like "Page 1 of xx" in the footer of
a document. How is this done in Word 2007?

The same field codes are used

{ PAGE } of { NUMPAGES }

Use Ctrl+F9 to insert each pair of field delimiters { } and Alt+F9 to toggle
off their display

Alternatively, from the Insert tab of the Ribbon, select Quick Parts then
Field and then from the available list of fields, select the Page field,
then type the of and then via Quick Parts>Fields, select and insert the
Numpages field.

Or use any of the Page X of Y building blocks under Insert | Page Numbers.

That adds "Filename and path." Page X of Y is already in the default
galleries.
