How do merge letter with different dollar amounts in word

I AM TRYING TO MERGE A LETTER THAT HAS DIFFERENT DOLLAR AMOUNTS HOWEVER, THE
MERGE IS NOT PICKING UP THE COMMA IN THE DOLLAR AMOUNT i.e. 10,000 IS 10000
5,000 IS 5000.

Look for "numeric picture" and "switch" in the word help.

I think you need to insert \# $#,##0 (at the end of the
field) to get $5,000 instead of 5000.

Or change to DDE: Tools > Options > General: X Confirm
conversion at Open
reassign the source, this time you will be asked for which
type of conversion you want, choose DDE.
That will usually pick up your formatting, too.
(Your source is an Excel file, right?)

Please do not type in all caps.
