How do mutliple users open the same XP database?

My users absolutely insist that my Access 2002 database be only one file,
not FE/BE and they want to simultaneously open it on the server. It's a
very simple database, where users look up information about document
numbers. Mostly no-one will be changing data.

My problem is that after one person opens the database, no-one else can - it
is locked out.

These people are afraid that if a change is made to the forms or reports and
they all have a copy on their machines, someone will miss out on the
changes. There is no way to change their minds.

So how do I get around this so that they can all look to their hearts
content?

Please save my sanity!
Thanks,
Mich

I have pointed this out to them - they say it is backed up nightly.

Isn't there a command line switch or something which will alow them to all
open it?

Have you set it to default to shared?

That option setting is for the Access installation on each user's PC. It's
not a setting that "follows the file".

I can't find that option - where is it? What is available on Access 2000
also?

Thanks,

I believe it's under Tools | Options, on the Advanced tab, for all versions.
