how do set up an excel spreadsheet to print address labels?

As long as your data is set up appropriately as a list it's much simpler to
use Word to generate labels. Specify the Excel file as your record source.

Have a look at Word Help> Contents- Mass Mailings. If you have any specific
questions post back with details in the Word newsgroup.
