Hi David,
Since Office 2010 is not supported at this stage, I'm just sharing some of
my personal thoughts.
Talking about the Office Web Applications, I think the question should be
"Will there any COM API for them?". I don't know what is the 3rd party
extensibility story for the Office Web Applications at this time, but I
guess - just a guess - even there will be 3rd party extensibility, you'll
very likely to use some web technologies say JavaScript/XML/Web Services to
program, not COM.
As Cindy suggested, the Connect site is a better place to ask this question.
Regards,
Jie Wang

Note: MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for non-urgent issues
where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support
Engineer within 2 business days is acceptable. Please note that each follow
up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions. Issues of this
nature are best handled working with a dedicated Microsoft Support Engineer
by contacting Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) at
