How do you add a resource to the Resource Center on Project Server ???

Hello Everyone,

I have installed Project Server in my lab along with SQL Server and
SharePoint Services.

I have added a windows authenticated user and verified that the user can
connect to the server.

The user is configured as a Project Manager and is able to publish projects
to the server.

When the user publishes a project to the server any local resources in the
project are automatically added to the server.

How do I cause a windows authenticated user that I have added to the Project
Server to be displayed as a enterprise resource in the Resource Center on
the Project Server ???

Bob,

What you need to do before you do ANYTHING else in
Project Server is build what's called the "Enterprise
Resource Pool". The ERP is what you see when you click
on the "Resources" tab of PSWA. Users added to project
server when a project is published to the server using
the Project client are not automatically added to the
ERP. They are not (as far as Project Server is
concerned) 'enterprise resources' - they are what I
call 'generic' or 'local' resources.

ERP modification/addition is done via the Project 2002
client. Open up the Project client, select "Tools ||
Enteprise Options || Open Enterprise Resource Pool".
(Make sure you have admin rights!) Project 2K2 will work
for a bit & open it up. Once it's open, click on
the "Resources" button at the top & select 'specify
people/equipment for project'. You'll be taken to
another menu where you can specify the source of your
resource pool, or enter them manually. If you have an
Enterprise Exchange GAL, select "address book", select
the users & add them. BE AWARE, however, that the GAL
import is imperfect, and does not correctly import the
email address or the domain/NT account of users - you'll
need to add that manually. It sucks, but knowing it
could save you some headaches.

Anyway, once you've got your resources added, save the
ERP, and the info will be added to the server. Check
the 'Resources' tab in PSWA to verify.

Then, when you're ready to build a new project and you
want to use Enteprise Resources, use the "Build Team From
Enteprise" option, and select "Project Server" as the
source. It will pull up the ERP listing, and you can add
your resources from there.

Adding/modifying the ERP is always the same process
discussed above. As I said, a very important thing to do
before you start building/publishing projects in Project
Server is to build your ERP as completely as possible,
and pull all of your resource assignments from that.

Good Luck,
John
