How do you block vacation time in Project Server 2007?

I am having some difficulties blocking vacation time for each resource
in Project Server 2007. Can anyone tell me the exact steps to do
this?

Thanks,
Mickey

1) Log into Project Pro with an account that has admin rights
2) Tools>Enterprise Options>Open Enterprise Resource Pool
3) Select a resource you want to edit, verify only the resources you want to
check out are on the right hand side under "Selected Resources"
4) Click the "Open..." button on the tool bar
5) Double click on a resource to get to the resource information screen
6) On the General tab click on "Change Working Time..."
7) This is where you can enter exceptions to the resources base calendar.
8) Enter exceptions by adding a name and a start and finish, they have to be
entered in one at a time.

FYI, modifying calendars in 2007 is not as user friendly as it was in 2003
and is very time consuming and tedious. I also don't think there is a way
to make a standard non working day that is on the base calendar become an
exception as a working day like you could in 2003. In 2003 you could
highlight non working base calendar days and mark them as "Nondefault
working times".

Mickey,

Jonathan's method certainly works, but if you are using Timesheets and
Administrative time, simply have the resources enter vacation time in
the future. Try this experiment to replicate my results:

1. Open a future Timesheet - I chose a week in March
2. Enter 8 hours a day x 3 days for that week in the Vacation row
3. Submit using your process
4. Open Project and set the start date to March 1, 2008
5. Assign yourself to a task and enter a task duration sufficient to
cover the vacation days. In my case, I entered 15 days.
6. Note that while the duration is 15 days, the Gantt bar and the
Start and Finish dates reflect 18 days of effort (15 work days + 3
days vacation).
7. You can also see on the Resource Calendar that the time is blocked
and the Exception name is My Timesheet

Hope This Helps,

Jonathan and all --

To make a nonworking day a nonstandard working day on the Standard calendar
in Project Professional 2007, you can do do the following:

1. In the Change Working Time dialog, select the nonworking day (such as a
Saturday or Sunday) in the calendar grid.
2. In the data grid on the Exceptions tab in the bottom half of the dialog,
enter the name of the calendar exception and then right-arrow to the Start
column.
3. Click the Details button.
4. In the Details dialog, select the Working Times option.

The schedule data grid will show the standard 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM -
5:00 PM working schedule.

5. If the nonstandard working time exception occurs on a regular repeating
cycle, such as the 2nd Saturday of every month for example, specify this in
the Recurrence Pattern section and then specify how many occurrences to
create.
6. Click the OK button to close the Details dialog.
7. Click the OK button to close the Change Working Time dialog.

Hope this helps.
