How do you check to see what tasks were updated since the last upd

So this is a little complicated I will try and be as clear as possible:

I have multiple projects that are updated by 4- 7 people. Each week I check
it and I need to list what tasks were updated since last time. The problem is
this is a very time consuming process to do it manually. Is there any column
or modified by area or tool where I can see when certain tasks were updated?

LAt resort woudl be to run a report but I really do not like the reporting
functionality in Project , I wish they would focus on making that a priority
in the next SP.

Thanks for the help!

Wayne,

What do you want to track when you say “updated†(progress, date changes,
etc.)?

You can use additional fields to capture the existing data so that you can
then compare it to the new data, and then generate a flag identifying only
those tasks with a delta so you can quickly see any changes depending on what
you want to track.

Darrle,
That sounds promising. Can you give me some more detail I have not used
additional fields for this before. Is there anyway you can explain further ?

Thanks!

Hi,

One technique I use, especially on tight timeframe projects is to save to
Baseline10 each week before updating the project. I have a tracking Gantt
that shows current against Baseline10 and that lets me see what is
happening.

Hi Wayne -
We use Rod's method as well, but save it as an "interim plan" which only
captures dates. Another method would be to use the "Compare Project
Versions" utility from the Analysis toolbar.

That doesn't work well for some folks, and it occassionally locks up on me.
I have found the key to getting results with that tool is to use the default
tables exactly how they come from the "factory settings"

Rod,
I have been trying to master this technique but I am not able to figure out
how to format my tracking gantt well enough to see the changes from my first
baseline to my second baseline. Could you give me any tips on what you did or
how you set up your chart.

Thanks!

Hi Wayne,

I suggest creating a new view (View > More Views.) Select the
Tracking Gantt and Copy. Rename the view. Apply the view. Go the
Format > Bar Styles and find the Baseline Bar Style. Select the
row. Click the Cut Row button. Click the Paste Row button
**twice** to paste two copies of the baseline row. To show
baseline1, edit the From to Baseline1Start and the Finish to
Baseline1Finish. Change the bar color as needed. If baseline and
baseline1 are the same, consider setting baseline1 to display in row
2 in the Format > Bar Styles dialog box. Repeat as needed for other
baseline styles.

Also as a note, there is an existing view called "Multiple baseline
Gantt" which shows Baseline, Baseline1, and Baseline2.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
