How do you create different colored bands in Visio?

I would like to create a cross functional diagram with different colored
bands. How do I color the entire band?

I am using Visio 2003 professional.

By default, the individual bands have no fill so that the process shapes
don't end up behind the bands (and therefore not visible). So, if you do
this, make sure that you are careful to send the functional bands to the
back to ensure they don't cover up the process shapes.

To do this, take the following steps:

1. Sub-select the band you are interested (to do this, click on the lines
between the bands -- making sure you don't double click -- until you have
the entire right band selected). Make sure that you have the whole band
rather than just the text area.

2. Go to Window>ShapeSheet

3. In the Fill Format section, change the FillPattern cell to 1. This will
remove the guard that is currently preventing you from changing the color.
Now you can use any fill control to change the color of the band.

Bill, it didn't work. I have Visio 2003. I changed FillPattern to 1, but
when I right click on the band (and yes, the entire band is selected - with a
little lock symbol), and hit selection "Fill", the options are blanked out.
Won't let me fill.
