How do you design a splash page?

How do I design a splash page in which: When the site opens, it should open
with a beautiful sunrise, then a dove enters holding a pink rose in it's
mouth with wings flapping then as the dove flys up towards the sky, the ocean
will appear with waves and light brown sand. Can I do that in Frontpage? I
really need to do this to promote a book....

Sounds like a Shockwave SWF to me. You would need Macromedia Director to
create it.

And if the site visitor doesn't have JVM installed they will not see it.

Then you won't want to be making a splash page if you want to promote it!

Search engines like to see content and there will be no content on your most
important page .. your homepage... no links to follow either.

Think about SEO )search engine optimization first if you want to promote
your site ... I'd join Cricket's Free SEO Class
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SEO_Techniques/ If you want to learn how to
set up your site in the best way .. be sure to read the guidelines.

There is article I wrote about promoting your FrontPage site too.

Well, hang on, Tina. With a Flash Splash page, you can easily include a link
to skip the intro, which is fairly common when SWFs are used as Splash
pages, including some very popular sites. I don't think it's an "either-or"
type of thing at all.

I do. A splash page is a waste of bandwidth for most web sites. People
don't go to the web for cosmic experiences - they go there for information.
A splash page is another pause in the process of getting it. And, it gives
them time to think about the next site in the list of hits.

It depends upon the type of web site. For example, I have a number of
friends that are graphics designers, or in the media fields. Their web sites
actually benefit from SWF splash pages. And of course, that's only the most
obvious example.

I think splash pages are a pain and I get out of them as fast as I can. The
splash page is NOT what I go to the website for.

I'm with Donna on this. I *never* willingly watch a splash intro. You
just cant beat load fast and get to the main point on a website.
