How do you kept slide in the same position when deleting items

I'm currently using PowerPoint 2007
With magnification to say 200% the slide will automatically return to the
central position when I delete an item from the slide (say a line or
rectangle for example)
This is obviously very annoying particularly at higher magnifications and
when working at the edges of the slide - you effectively have to go back to a
full screen view click on an object in the vicinity of the item you just
deleted and then zoom back into the area you are working on
Is there a way you can delete items without the slide automatically self
centering?

It's a bug, for the time being there is not much we can do about it. Let us
hope MS fixes it in the near future.

crack and wait for the changes to be made to the software - hopefully
Difficult to understand how such a fundamental requirement slipped through
the review processes

Yes, apply SP2 for Office 2007 to fix the actual problem. (Learning about
the selection pane is just an added bonus, far as I'm concerned!)

Thanks, I tried the eye-con to the right, but when the object was hidden, the
view still shifted to the center of the slide. I'll have to try the service
pack and see if the problem has been fixed there!
