How do you make Visio 2003 Pro screen tips publish into a web pag.

I am using the Cross Functional Flowchart stencil and have added screen tips
to the descriptor in the left-most part of the organizational band
(horizontal). The screen tip appears when I mouse-over the area in Visio,
but it doesn't appear after publishing the file to html (web page). Why?

This is an exceedingly common request, and I myself posted one about that. I
was able to find a couple of workarounds, but only one of these was really
functional.

For each master shape, open edit master shape in the document stencil and
then show the shapesheet for this master shape. In the Custom Properties
section change the formula for Value to =Comment

Save and repeat for each shape.

When you publish as a webpage be sure to check the Details box. Then, when
you are viewing in a window, CTRL+Click each shape and the screentip comment
you entered will be visible on the left side in the custom properties window.
Not clean, but works.

I also tried adding a user.VisEquivTitle line to the shape sheet that
referrenced the comment, and although it did show as a mouse over window, it
was very truncated showing only the first line . . ., and then not always.

If any body else figures this out, let me know.

Thank you for the helpful tips.

I was able to make the first one work. However, I am not sure how to do the
user.VisEquivTitle method. Where does this "tag" get placed? You said the
shape sheet that references the comment, but I am cannot figure out where
this is done. If you could be a bit more specific, I would appreciate it.

Again, thanks for taking the time and offering a workable solution.

I am not sure if you got my reply, so I am sending again.

I was able to get the first suggestion to work very well, even though it
doesn't allow for mouse over.

However, I am unable to get the other to work as I am unsure of how to do.
Can you be a bit more specific?

Thank you very much,

Tom

Tom,

I just tried repeating the second method and it didn't work for me this
time. I'm not sure why. What you can do is open the master stencil shapesheet
for the shape, right click on the first actual line under User-Defined Cells,
and select add line. Change the newly added line from Row_4 (or something) to
..VisEquivTitle. Click on the Value cell, and either enter =Comment or "the
comment you want to appear" in parentheses.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it did appear, it only showed
the first line and ellipsis.

I sure wish it was easier than this.

Good luck, Wolf

since this mechanism was based on an existing visio function you're options
are fairly limited. You might consider creating a complex string with
embedded char controls as an option. If you're really set on linking a lot
of information to the drawing you should consider hyperlinks.
