How do you measure an area

I have recently upgraded to Visio 2003 from 2000 and it is quite different. I
design swimming pools and need to know how to calculate an area to include
square footage and perimeter. What I did find was the shape tool and that
will not work. On the later version there was a measurment button so all I
had to do was seledt an object and click measure and it would give me the
correct square foot and perimeter. Any info would be great.

just for the fun of it, I opened the Building Plan => Home plan. Used the
tool bar to draw a circle. Selected Plan from the tool bar => convert to
walls (select convert to space shape). Then used the dimensioning stencil to
put the appropriate annotations on the drawing.
