How do you remove the trial version after installing new version?

I have the trial that came on my comp for home/student. I purchased visio
2007 through the military so they sent me the disk. I have loaded it on and
then I open an application and it says that my trial has expired, but I
already loaded the new one on. So then I deleated the trial and then nothing
works - it is as if it doesn't recognize the new softwear. So I did a system
restore to take everything back to what is was before and tried again and
still not luck - any ideas?
