How do you return to the TOC after pressing CTRL + Click?

Shift+F5 may work. If you're using Word 2002 or 2003 (as I suspect you are,
given the reference to Ctrl+click), add a Go To TOC button to your toolbar.
Find it a GoToTableOfContents in the All Commands category of Tools |
Customize.
