How do you set the default line format?

I have tried to set the default format for lines in my Visio, but it does not
work. I opened Visio Help and found that what I was doing was correct, but
yet it still doesn't work. Any clues?

If you have nothing selected when you change formatting properties in Visio,
you are editing the default format. The default format applies to geometric
primitives drawn using the Drawing Tools. The text format also applies to
text created by the Text Tool. The default format does not apply to the
Connector tool or to shapes dragged from a stencil.
