Since the thing that Word calls "Reveal Formatting" is a task pane that has an
"x" close button, I'll guess that isn't what you mean.
If you're seeing dots instead of spaces, and paragraph marks ¶ at the ends of
lines, you have nonprinting characters displayed. Click the ¶ (Show/Hide) button
on the toolbar or press Ctrl+Shift+8 to turn them off and on. See http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm.
